SmartLi Battery System Solution

Application and Demand

As the construction of 5G base stations in China reaches maturity, 5G networks are expanding to regions such as Southeast Asia, Africa, and South America, covering a total population of approximately 2.4 billion. It is expected that the upgrade and construction of 5G stations will reach 12 million. The demand for backup batteries at each site presents significant market potential.

Compared to 2G, 3G, and 4G, the power consumption of 5G telecom base stations has increased significantly. The power consumption of 2G/3G/4G networks is relatively low, with a 4G base station consuming about 1 kilowatt. In the 5G era, a 5G base station typically consumes between 3 and 4 kilowatts, which is 3 to 4 times that of 4G. Assuming an emergency backup power duration of 4 hours per station, a 5G macro base station requires 12 kilowatt-hours of battery storage. The cumulative market demand for batteries is expected to reach 144 gigawatt-hours. At a price of 70 USD per kilowatt-hour, the market capacity could reach over 100 billion USD.

In the development of 5G networks, the current stage mainly involves upgrading existing base stations. However, these sites face challenges related to equipment expansion. Additionally, due to the high-density deployment of 5G base stations, with limited load-bearing and space on rooftops, traditional lead-acid batteries are environmentally polluting, bulky, and have low energy density. Moreover, new lead-acid batteries cannot be directly paralleled with old ones for capacity expansion. Therefore, traditional lead-acid batteries can no longer meet the needs of 5G base station expansion and new-generation communication technology.

48V SmartLi Solution

The DFPA48100-S is widely used as backup power for telecommunication sites. With a built-in intelligent Battery Monitoring System (BMS) and the bidirectional DC/DC converter, it supports boost, buck, and constant power output. It can directly mix use with VRLA battery in parallel to realize reuse and expansion of existing batteries, to provide stable backup power for applications like Telecom base station, Railway, Substation etc.

The product consists of three main components: battery module, intelligent BMS, and chassis.

SmartLi main components

It offers four working modes: Lithium Mode, Adaptive Management Mode, Battery Management Mode, and Maintenance Mode. The default working mode is Adaptive Management Mode, which can be changed via the upper computer settings.

SmartLi working modes

SmartLi Features

  • Alarm and Protection: Overvoltage, undervoltage, overcurrent, overtemperature, undertemperature, short circuit, reverse connection, etc.

  • Intelligent Parallel Operation: CAN isolated communication interface for parallel operation, supporting automatic address recognition, up to 32 batteries in parallel, synchronously increasing backup time or backup power.

  • Intelligent Anti-Theft: Software anti-theft and gyroscope, supporting sound and light alarms.

  • Charge and Discharge Current Limiting: Adjustable current limit for charging and discharging via the upper computer.

  • Intelligent Voltage Constant and Boosting: Adjustable output voltage via the upper computer.

  • Battery Balancing: Active current balance control.

SmartLi Highlights

Compared to ordinary lithium batteries, SmartLi offers three major advantages: remote control, intelligence, and safety.

SmartLi Highlights

  • Support Bluetooth communication, allowing viewing data via mobile APP.

  • Built-in DC-DC converter, support boost and constant power output to achieve boost and remote power supply, mixed use of VRLA battery and Lithium battery, and mixed use of new and old battery.

  • Pack-level fired extinguishing in seconds, minimizing the risk of fire.

  • Protocol conversion module as optional, allowing remote centralized monitoring of different sites.

DFUN 48V SmartLi Battery System Solution perfectly addresses issues such as the inability of traditional backup lithium batteries to be mixed with new and old batteries, and the incompatibility of lead-acid and lithium batteries, meeting the intelligent backup power needs of telecom base stations.
